A Bit About Us
Craighead is a traditional Scottish stone-built farmhouse and steading near Dunblane, Perthshire, the family home since 1990. It was built circa 1750!
Over the years it has become 'a favourite meeting place and haunt' for family and friends. We first opened with our Muckle Howf and those who have stayed are often returning time and again. It offers you a delightful location in which to spend your holiday, either to simply relax or as a base for some of the best Scotland has to offer. What makes it special is the setting combined with the very high standard achieved. It is unique set in the quiet countryside, surrounded by natural gardens, a lochan and woodland areas. |
We have wonderful views, sunsets and privacy, yet thanks to our location we are ideally place to base yourself for easy access to some of Scotland’s finest country and tourist attractions.
Our glamping offers some of the most quirky there is in Scotland - each one very different and each one in its own little piece of our grounds and garden. Designed and built by us, we offer something different. Glamping we think at its best.
We have lived at Craighead since 1990, restoring the house and buildings, then going on to create the lochan, grounds and gardens. As keen campers and lovers of the countryside we branched out in to glamping in 2014 with the opening of the Wee Howf. The others have followed so you now have the choice of immersing yourself in the garden in the Summer Howf, going back in time in the Whisky Howf, sitting high in the Ash Tree in one of our two Tree Houses, dissapearing down to our shire to spend time in our stone built underground round door houses or be amongst the first to stay in our newly upgraded Wee Tree Howf which is now most definately a fine tree house!
You can also enjoy a stay our Muckle Howf, graded 5* by the Scottish Tourist Board and are found regularly by our guests through Visit Scotland and Quirky Glamping websites to name a couple!
Who are we - well we we are Ian & Heather - family and grandchildren. We met a very long time ago, worked and travelled and then came across Craighead. We moved here with two small boys - Lewis & Arran and Hayley joined the gang a couple of years later. Over the years we renovated the house and the buildings, gardened and gathered up some animals! We always loved camping and the country and after the Muckle Howf was built the notion of glamping took off. We didn't intend to create this! We were both working and bringing up the family but it just evolved alongside Ians joinery business!!
We have tried to create unique places for people to stay, that offer a personal space in the grounds and garden from where you can enjoy the countryside and wildlife.
The great thing too is that in just a short car journey you can find lots of great places to visit.
