Ash Tree Howf Facilities

  • Totally self contained Tree Howf surrounding the ancient Ash Tree
  • Hand made rustic King size bed with bedside lighting 
  • Huge star gazing window above the bed – please note there is no blind – do bring a sleep mask if the light is likely to trouble you.
  • Wood burning stove with  glass door so you can watch the flames.
  • Two ring gas hob and oven.
  • Fridge
  • Crockery, cutlery, pots and pans
  • Luxurious integral hot shower with adjacent wash hand basin -(In freezing conditions if water is off you have the full use of the facilities within the Wash Howf) Please note the minimal electricity in the Tree Howf can not cope with hair dryers so one is provided in the Wash Howf.
  • Antique Belfast sink with hot and cold running water…   (Please do note that if the weather falls to freezing the water has to be turned off)
  • Downstairs toilet- designer eco friendly compost toilet with wash hand basin and lighting
  • Stunning viewing platform with superb views all around and heart shaped table for that romantic moment
  • Fire pit and BBQ accessed by another stair to grassy area with fabulous views and total privacy
  • Recycling facility and private parking within a 50 metre walk

Important Note: In the event of weather conditions that could cause frozen pipes, the water supply may be turned off, and alternative facilities will be available in the Wash Howf. The loo at the Howf will still be in use.

In the evening, sit outside on the balcony overlooking the lochan and the Ochils. Furthermore, you can test your cookery skills on the wood-burning oven and enjoy your meal al fresco. In the summer, watch the swallows dip in the water. Moreover, you’ll be treated to sightings of various birds and wildlife.

Exploring the Grounds

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area during the day. However, if you prefer to stay close, you can simply enjoy the two acres of grounds and gardens at Craighead Howf. Consequently, the idyllic setting provides a perfect backdrop for relaxation and exploration.

During your stay, you’ll encounter a host of wildlife. Among them are our pony, Soay sheep, Swiss Valley Blacknose sheep, and Shropshire sheep, along with rheas, peafowl, fantails, turkeys, guinea fowl, hens, ducks, two alpacas, pygmy goats, geese, cats, and our two Highland cows are happy to pose for photo opportunities.

What to Bring

When staying at the Ash Tree Howf, slippers are a must. Additionally, if you are troubled by light, a sleep mask is recommended. Don’t forget to pack a torch, a camera, and plenty of food and drinks. Furthermore, remember that bottle of bubbly and, most importantly, bring time to sit back and enjoy this unique Tree Howf.

Children & Pets

We’re sorry, but the Ash Tree Howf is designed as an adult retreat and is not suitable for children. Additionally, pets are not allowed at Craighead Howf. These policies are in place to protect the wildlife and livestock on the farm and to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all our guests. We appreciate your understanding!
